Explosion Proof Actuators

Explosion Proof Actuators are built to manage industrial valves and dampers in environments with flammable atmospheres. They are ATEX and IECEx certified for use in Zone 1 and Zone 2 gas and combustible dust environments.

The actuators’ fail-safe features make them perfect for hazardous locations, shifting to a safe position in case of malfunction or power loss. They are also UL HazLoc and CSA C22.2 No 100-04 compliant.
Safety

Electric actuators offer control for a wide variety of valve and damper applications, including those in hazardous locations. These actuators reset to a fail-safe position when they lose power, so they are not susceptible to a spark-igniting explosion in the case of motor failure.

The safety features of these devices include flame-proof, dust ignition proof and intrinsically safe. They are capable of operating in Zone 1 and 2 environments containing explosive gases like hydrogen or dangerous dusts like coal.

Static electricity is also a concern in many industrial applications, so these actuators feature antistatic designs that prevent the buildup of static charge. They are ideal for use in hazardous locations such as grain elevators, where flammable dust can cause devastating explosions. This equipment can be used to manage airflow and dust levels in these environments, as well as in other applications such as wastewater treatment plants processing sewage gas. UL HazLoc and ATEX certified, these actuators are suitable for the most demanding environments.
Performance

In environments where hazardous gases can be present, it is essential that your electric actuator can withstand the threat of an internal explosion without causing an external one. Explosion proof electric actuators are engineered to prevent this from happening, with special flameproof enclosures and conduit seals that protect against fires or shocks.

WE series explosion proof electric actuators are ideal for small ball valves (2″ and smaller) and dampers, as well as other quarter-turn applications. They can be powered by a variety of supply voltages, and offer two-position or modulating control.

Designed to operate in a wide range of temperatures and environments, 5818 series pneumatic actuators are certified to meet US, EU and Chinese explosion proof standards. They are perfect for automation of quarter turn ball valves and butterfly valves. They are easy to install, using standard ISO5211 multi-flange mounting and double square drive, and provide visual and electrical valve position indication and manual override.
Design

Electric actuators, like all electrical devices, can be a source of ignition in explosive environments. However, explosion proof actuators are built with a sturdy shell designed to prevent sparks from reaching the outside and potentially creating an explosion.

These actuators are certified to operate in hazardous locations including Class I, Division 1, Groups B, C, D, and T4. With a simple design they meet the requirements of UL HazLoc and ATEX.

These explosion proof actuators are used to automate quarter turn ball valves and dampers in a wide range of industries. They are powered by continuous AC current and have a fail-safe mechanism that resets to the last known position when power is lost. They also feature two auxiliary dry contact limit switches that confirm open and closed position. The integral motor/housing design delivers more torque in a smaller package.
Applications

The sturdiest of the bunch, explosion proof electric actuators are the workhorses of the industry. They manage the operation of valves and dampers to help make sure delicate chemical reactions are carried out without a bang, quite literally.

The WE Series and XE Series are designed to operate small size ball valves (1″ and smaller), multileaf dampers and similar quarter-turn operating applications. The actuator uses a continuous voltage input signal to open and close the multileaf damper blades to either OPEN or CLOSED position.

The rotary electric actuators go the extra mile with multiple rotational movements. They’re the maestros of industrial orchestras with their precise manipulation and real-time monitoring capabilities. They also have incorporated fail-safe features to shift to a safe position in the event of a malfunction.
